Bedbugs Identification; See how to spot the difference
There are 2 types of bed bugs that feed on humans; Cimex Lectularius and Cimex Hemipterus. Unfortunately, unless you are an entomologist or a bed bug expert, you’re unlikely to be able to tell the different types of bed bugs apart. However, Cimex Hemipterus is more common in tropical climates such as South East Asia where they are extremely common, whereas Cimex Lectularius is more common in temperate regions such as US and Europe.
They both have similar nesting habits and their bites are also identical. Both move through 5 life stages to reach adulthood and 1 single female can laid up to 5 eggs for 21 consecutive days (around 300 every 21 days).
Basically, the only difference between the two species is their neck; Cimex Lectularius’ neck is wider and thicker, and their head seems to be inside the neck. Shown on below photo.
